An Iowa State University mechanical engineering faculty member is among 13 from across the globe recognized as a distinguished young professional by a professional society in his field.

Beiwen Li, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering, was named a 2020 DCS Rising Researcher by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. The Rising Researchers program recognizes early career professionals who conduct outstanding work in product development or research in the defense, commercial, and scientific sensing, imaging, optics or related fields. Li’s research falls within the discipline of Industrial Sensing & Measurement. Awardees were assessed on impact statements provided they provided, research abstracts, CVs and recommendations from a supervisor or senior colleague.

Li and his group will present two papers titled “Uniaxial structured light 3D shape measurement by sharpness analysis” and “Similarity evaluation of 3D topological measurement results using statistical methods” at the SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing conference in April.
