Sarah Beckman is new CBE Laboratory Coordinator

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering welcomes Sarah Beckman, who joins the department as Laboratory Coordinator.

Sarah is an Iowa State University College of Engineering alumna, having graduated with a concurrent B.S. in Ceramic Engineering and M.S. in Materials Science Engineering in 1999.

Following graduation from ISU she worked as a chemist for a battery company in California before taking a position with the NASA Ames Research Center as a contractor developing ceramics for thermal protection systems (TPS) of high speed aircraft. Following that she worked in a civil service position developing TPS for the wing leading edge of the Boeing X-37 unmanned experimental space plane. She was most recently employed as an onsite contractor for Heraeus Quartzglas in Austin, TX, working with glass blowers using high purity silica to fabricate equipment for the semiconductor industry.

Sarah will work with CBE faculty and students in the areas of teaching laboratories, shared research laboratories and lab safety.

She lives in Ames with her six-year-old daughter in a 100-year-old house that she renovated. She is an avid knitter and has won numerous ribbons and awards for projects entered in Iowa State Fair competitions.
