$6 million gift from Boeing to support Iowa State University’s Student Innovation Center and undergraduate researchers

The Boeing Company made a $6 million commitment to Iowa State University that will enhance the educational experience for all students at Iowa State, inspire innovation on the university’s campus, and support engineering students interested in research. A significant portion of Boeing’s gift will support construction of the Student Innovation Center, the approximately 140,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art building that will serve as the hub on campus for hands-on projects where students can collaborate across a wide range of disciplines.

MoSAIc prepares students for careers in research, and beyond

ABE professor issued patent for agricultural weighing device

Matthew Darr, a professor in Iowa State University’s Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department (ISU ABE), was recently issued a U.S. patent. Titled “Round Module Weighing Using Differential Pressure Sensing,” the patent was issued on Oct. 9, 2018. It was filed as U.S. Patent No. 10,091,943. CBE Ph.D. student wins TCS2018 poster competition for thermal and catalytic research

Sean Rollag, a Ph.D. student in chemical engineering, won first place in the graduate research poster competition at the TCS 2018 conference on thermal and catalytic sciences. Rollag’s poster shows the physical changes in the structure of biomass during thermal deconstruction.

Allison Theisen, senior in Industrial Engineering, is diversifying her undergraduate degree program at Iowa State University with an entrepreneurial studies minor. World War II servicemen studying mechanical and ag engineering to be honored at ISU Gold Star Hall ceremony

World War II servicemen studying mechanical and agricultural engineering will be honored at Iowa State’s Gold Star Hall ceremony at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 in the Memorial Union Great Hall. William Howard Butler, who studied ag engineering in the 1940s and died in China in 1945, and Richard Wayne Suesens, who came to Iowa State to study mechanical engineering in 1937 and was killed in action during the Battle of Midway in 1942, will be remembered during the Gold Star Hall ceremony, part of a week of events on campus dedicated to honoring veterans.
