ABE Ph.D. candidate Somchi Rice was awarded for a paper stemming from her TOX M.S. thesis entitled “Characterizing the Smell of Marijuana by Odor Impact of Volatile Compounds: An Application of Simultaneous Chemical and Sensory Analysis.”  The paper was published in PLOS ONE in 2015 and was co-authored with ABE associate professor Jacek Koziel.  According to Dr. Koziel, they pioneered the use of sensory analyses of illicit drugs using lessons learned from analyzing swine manure odor to assist with forensic analyses and enforcement.  The article has garnered over 10,000 views and 7 citations.
