Fouad Fanous, professor of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at Iowa State University, helped coordinate the first International Conference on Infrastructure Management, Assessment and Rehabilitation Techniques (ICIMART). The conference, held at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, occurred March 4-6.

As a member of the Conference Advisory Board, member of the International Scientific Committee, and a Session Chair at the conference, Dr. Fanous arranged for four American keynote speakers to present their research at the event. Two of those speakers were CCEE alumni David Sanders (BSCE’84) and Wagdy Wassef (PhDCE’91).

American University of Sharjah invited Dr. Fanous to present his paper, “Service Life of Bridge Decks Reinforced with Epoxy Coated Bars.” In addition, he and two colleagues presented their research entitled, “Analysis and Verification of an UHPC Pre-stressed Pi-Girder Bridge.” This bridge was built on one of the roads in Buchanan County, Iowa.

Members of the conference came from around the world with various engineering backgrounds. The next conference will be held at Qatar University in 2016. “I hope that more international collaboration will occur in the future between Iowa State, American University of Sharjah and the University of Qatar,” Dr. Fanous said. “I look forward to representing CCEE abroad.”
