Wind chill aside, it’s always invigorating to see the rise in energy levels on campus when classes begin after winter break. The new semester reminds me of what a complex enterprise the college is, with thousands of students, and hundreds of faculty and staff. When I think of the intense coursework, innovative research, and valuable co-op experiences—of students here from thousands of miles away or just a few counties over—I am amazed to see it all put in motion once again.
Then, when I consider our far-flung and loyal alumni, corporate partners, research collaborators—plus study abroad collaborations and international service projects—I am deeply satisfied to know what sort of impact our college is having on the world outside of campus.
As you read this, I hope you’ll take a moment to consider the impact that you are having as a student, a professor, a staff member, or an alum. Or, perhaps, if you are connected to us in some other way, then to simply acknowledge the difference being made by the Iowa State University College of Engineering.
It’s a good feeling.
