Anderson prepares for new arrivals

Aerospace engineering alum Clay Anderson and his Exhibition 15 crewmates are preparing for major changes on the International Space Station (ISS). The Expedition 16 crew with commander Peggy Whitson and flight engineer Yuri Malenchenko is scheduled to arrive October 12. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, a Malaysian spaceflight participant, will accompany them. Shukor, along with Anderson’s crewmates, commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and flight engineer Oleg Kotov, will return to Earth on October 21. Anderson will remain on the ISS until the space shuttle Discovery arrives with his replacement, Dan Tani, in late October.

Recent activities for the Expedition 15 crew have included testing a new oxygen-generating system. The new system is needed in order to supply enough oxygen when the station crews are expanded from three to six members.
