Marshalltown appoints new public works director

Justin Nickel, civil engineering alumnus from Iowa State University, was recently appointed to be the public works director for the City of Marshalltown on May 5.

Nickel has been public works director for Overland Park in Kansas since 2005 and previously worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation. Beginning on June 9, he will oversee the engineering, sewer, streets, compost, transit and all other public works operations for Marshalltown.

He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University and his master’s in civil engineering from the University of Kansas. He and his wife are originally from Iowa.

Lamer Lamer, at-large council member, helped in the hiring process.

“I think he will be a great asset to our town he’ll fit right in with the director group we have right now,” Lamer said. “It’s a pleasure to have him come to Marshalltown and we look forward to have him here.”
