AerE/MSE senior is commencement student marshal

David Lantz, a graduating senior with a double major in AerE and MSE, has been selected to serve as the College of Engineering student marshal at Iowa State’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10.

In this role, Lantz will lead the engineering graduates in to the ceremony. The student marshal is selected by the dean’s office from nominees submitted by the departments. Lantz will be escorted by his grandfather, David Wilder, an MSE emeritus professor, who served as department chair from 1961 to 1988.

Lantz has been involved in many activities throughout his college career. He served as Career Fair co-chair in 2006 and Engineers Week co-chair in 2007 and was a mentor to the Engineering Leadership Program scholars. He recently returned from Washington, D.C., where he lobbied for increased federal funding for the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Lantz, who was a NASA co-op at Johnson Space Center for four semesters, will join NASA’s Mission Control group full time in July.
